Over the course of three generations, Filmet has expressed a spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation. Vincent Bachelder founded Filmet as a hobby shop and portrait studio dedicated to serving department stores. His son Vernon came into the business at the death of his father and proceeded to alter Filmet’s focus in order to offer the services of a commercial photographic lab. In the mid-50’s, Filmet adapted once again to provide processing capabilities for others. Filmet became the first company in Pittsburgh to adopt color photography.
Vernon’s son Rick became the President in 1980. Recognizing a number of paradigm shifts in the printing industry, Rick moved the company in a new direction. In 1984, he purchased Filmet’s first electronic printer. Since then, Filmet has continually invested in electronics, recently installing a Lambda digital photographic printer, (2) RP30 laser photographic printers, and new processing equipment. In August of 2003, the Filmet team moved into their current facility, located in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. The move to Rockpointe will soon grant Filmet the opportunity to conduct business in close proximity to an airport. This airport, which is currently under construction, will be the gateway to expanding regional business.
In April of 2004, Filmet launched the Filmet Connect Online imaging service that enabled online ordering and next-day shipping capabilities for wedding, portrait and sports photographers. With a long and successful history of excellent service and innovation, Filmet remains committed to providing its customers with the quality they have come to expect.
